Four events for creators to test studio equipment, three of them UK shows
Four events where creators can test studio equipment: The Photography Show, BVE, IBC and the North West Audio Show, with venues, past dates and what you can handle.
What to take away
- Four events let creators handle studio gearThe Photography Show at Birmingham's NEC, BVE at ExCeL London, IBC at the RAI Amsterdam and the North West Audio Show at Cranage Hall.
- No 2026 dates had been published when this was written.
- IBC is the only one outside the UK, and the only one needing a flight or a rail crossing.
- Budget for a ticket, travel, a room and a day away from paid work.
Dates, venues and typical slots
Nothing is confirmed for 2026.
| Show | Venue | Usual slot | Latest edition |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Photography Show | NEC, Birmingham | Four days in March | 8 to 11 March 2025 |
| BVE | ExCeL London | Three days in late February | 25 to 27 February 2025 |
| IBC | RAI Amsterdam | Five days in September | 12 to 16 September 2025 |
| North West Audio Show | Cranage Hall, Cheshire | A June weekend | 21 and 22 June 2025 |
The Photography Show at the NEC
It is the biggest of the four for creator kit, running over four days at the National Exhibition Centre.
Stands carry mirrorless and cinema bodies, lenses, gimbals, LED panels, microphones and recorders. Many build a shooting area, so you can mount a light and hear a microphone in one session.
Audio is thinner than video, so ask a larger stand to patch a condenser against a dynamic model. A shortlist of named YouTube cameras narrows which bodies deserve a test slot.
BVE at ExCeL London
BVE is the London broadcast and production show, most recently at ExCeL London from 25 to 27 February 2025. It is the smallest of the four, so one day covers the floor.
Stands carry studio and PTZ cameras, vision mixers, audio consoles, lighting rigs and signal routing, which suits a small studio running multi-camera work.
Registration terms change yearly, so confirm whether your badge is free before booking travel.
IBC at the RAI Amsterdam
IBC is not a UK show. It runs at the RAI Amsterdam, most recently from 12 to 16 September 2025, and UK creators travel by air or rail via Brussels.
Amsterdam RAI station sits beside the halls, and no UK event gathers as many camera, lighting and audio brands under one roof.
Allow two days for a studio build, because a crowded hall flatters most gear.
Reviews that separate specifications for results catch products that only perform under show lighting.
The North West Audio Show at Cranage Hall
The North West Audio Show runs over a June weekend at Cranage Hall in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, most recently on 21 and 22 June 2025. Hotel rooms become listening rooms rather than open stands.
You can play your own file and compare two models with nobody waiting behind you. Listening chains usually run balanced XLR connections between microphone, interface and monitors, so ask what will be patched in.
Example: testing one microphone at two shows
At the NEC you might hear four dynamic microphones in an hour, in a loud hall with monitoring you do not know. At Cranage Hall you could record the same passage on two of them and compare the files at home.
A show demo gives you feel, build and controls. A desk review gives you measurements and long-term behaviour.
After the show, match what you handled against a review that keeps desk, bench and hands-on testing on the record.

Cost lines for tickets, travel and rooms
Ticket tiers are set by each organiser. A multi-day pass has usually cost less than two single days.
- Ticketconfirm the current tier, and whether trade registration is free in advance.
- TravelBirmingham International serves the NEC, Custom House serves ExCeL London, and Amsterdam RAI has its own station.
- Accommodationbook early for a March NEC weekend or September in Amsterdam. The ONS tourism industry data covers UK visitor accommodation.
- Kitheadphones, test files and a spare memory card.
Set your testing list before you travel, because a hall without a plan produces leaflets and no answers.
Before you travel to a show
- Buy or register for your ticket in advance
- Save the hall plan and mark stands
- List three or four products to test
- Pack your own SD card and headphones
- Book travel and hotel early
- Note the VAT position for a business
- Leave time for a second pass
Limited companies can check government-backed business finance and support schemes for funding that covers camera and audio purchases.
Common questions
Are 2026 dates confirmed?
No. None of the four organisers had published them when this was written, so check each official site before booking.
Is IBC in the UK?
No. It runs at the RAI Amsterdam, most recently from 12 to 16 September 2025.
Which show is best for testing a microphone?
Cranage Hall, where a quiet room lets you record and compare at leisure. The NEC is quicker for several models.
Do creators need a trade badge for BVE?
Registration terms are set each year, so check the current policy before travelling.
